2010 Marmotte quick trip

July 1st to July 5th, 2010

Itinerary - What's Included - Options

This trip offers a couple of days in the Alps to get you acclimated, followed by the Marmotte and the Grimpee de l'Alpe the next day.

One of the staff members on this trip will be Olivier Dulaurent, also known affectionately as Duduche. Not only has Duduche been working with us for the past 3 years, but he is also quite possibly the best resource on the Trophee de l'Oisans and CycloSportives in General. His cycling resume is quite impressive and among his many wins feature the Grand Trophee (TWICE!) which is a series of 10 cyclo Sportive which include the Marmotte. He also finished second (twice as well). In addition he has finished the Marmotte 8th overall once and 10th another time.

- July 1st - We'll be picking up at Grenoble train station at 1:00pm and will make the short drive to Alpe d'huez. Once check-in is completed, we'll assemble bikes and go for a short ride in the area. There are several trains from Paris and from Lyon airport that arrive in Grenoble.

- July 2nd - We'll have a short ride planned in the morning to keep the legs going, but the plan is mostly to register, and prepare for tomorrow's event. Massages are available be should be booked ahead of time.

- La Marmotte - July 3rd -  This is the major event! The Marmotte was the first cyclosportive created, back in 1982 and with such climbs as Col de la Croix de Fer, the Telegraphe+Galibier combo and the climb up to Alpe d'Huez, it remains "the" reference to this day - the event every cyclo-sportif should ride at least once (or every year as some do!).

It all starts in Bourg d'Oisans at the base of Alpe d'Huez. The base of the first climb the col de la Croix de Fer comes quickly followed by the col du Telegraphe, Galibier and finally Alpe d'Huez. After going over the col du Glandon for a few years due to an ongoing construction project on the road to the col de la Croix de Fer, it should be back to the classic course over the Croix de Fer in 2010. At the end of the day, 174km with 16404' of eevation gain - congratulations!

- La Montee de l'Alpe - July 4th - Never enough Alpe d'Huez! The final event of this "Trophee de l'Oisans" is a timed event up the 21 switchbacks. Times will be tallied tonight to find out individual rankings!

- July 5th - Early departure for a drop-off at Grenoble TGV around 10:00am.... or join us to view/ride the Tour de France
